TOME

The Terrain of Magical Expertise (TOME) is a fully voice-acted, 2D, turn-based RPG that was successfully crowdfunded via Kickstarter in November 11th 2017 and officially released on September 9th 2021, to a passionate indie gaming audience.

As a core development team member, I played a pivotal role in shaping key gameplay systems and player-facing mechanics. My primary responsibilities included level design, enemy AI behavior design and scripting, and the design and tuning of the core combat systems, with a focus on strategic engagement and player progression balance.

To get in to a few more details, the game balance I worked on included developing the game’s player economy, powerup upgrade systems, and ensuring the functionality and polish of all player-accessible levels. In addition, I conceptualized and designed all combat techniques for the main character !

This experience further honed my skills in game design documentation, systems design, combat tuning, and cross-disciplinary collaboration—from working closely with programmers and artists to balancing gameplay for accessibility and challenge. It also deepened my understanding of Unity-based development, independent game publishing workflows, and the nuances of developing in a remote, agile production environment.
